Speaker-Jeffrey Seinfeld, PhD, MSW
Dr. Seinfeld's presentation discusses the impact of early object relations on
the ability to form attachments and become intimate. In so doing, it reviews
British and American object relations theories, emphasizing contemporary
advances especially around issues of trauma and dissociation. An object
relations approach to schizoid, borderline and narcissistic states and the
transference/ countertransference issues associated with them is discussed.

About the Keynote Speaker
JEFFREY SEINFELD - is a professor at NYU School of Social Work and
a consultant at the Jewish Board of Family and Children's Services
He is the author of "The Bad Object", "The Empty Core", "Interpreting and
Holding", and "Containing Rage, Terror and Despair.". He is in private practice
in New York City.
About the Panelists
Phyllis F. Cohen, PhD, LP is an individual and group psychoanalyst, professor
and training supervisor practicing in New York City. She is faculty member and
Chair of the Psychoanalytic Department of the Blanton-Peale Institute; and
faculty at both the Center for Human Development and Heed University. She is
past Chairman of the American Board for Accreditation in Psychoanalysis (ABAP)
and currently is the Chair of the Committee on Accreditation. Author of many
journal articles and speaker at international conferences, she is primarily
known for her work in nonverbal and symbolic communication.
Lee Crespi, LCSW is on the Executive Committee of the Psychoanalytic
Psychotherapy Study Center, where she teaches and supervises. She is a graduate
of and supervisor at the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy. She is the
author of numerous articles on countertransference, lesbian relationships, and
other related subjects. She is in private practice in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Leslie Rosenthal, PhD, is a founder and Dean Emeritus of the Group Studies
Department at the Center for Modern Psychoanalytic Studies, a Heed faculty
member, and on the Board of Consultants for the Group Therapy Program of CHD. He
is the author of the classic Resolving Resistance in Group Psychotherapy and of
numerous articles on group psychoanalysis and psychotherapy. He is a Life Fellow
of the American Group Psychotherapy Association, and has served as group therapy
consultant to many social agencies, hospitals, and educational institutions. He
is a psychoanalyst in private practice in Manhattan
Jack Wiener, NCPsyA, LP is a psychoanalyst and training analyst at NPAP. He
serves as treasurer on the Board of Trustees of NAAP. He was founder/director of
The School For Creative Movement from 1962-1992 and is the author of Creative
Movement for Children.. His interest in affect through improvisation (free
associations) began in 1959 and continues in his work as a psychoanalyst,
creative movement teacher and movement analyst in private practice in New York.
Currently, he is writing a book on the musculature as a primal, non-verbal
source of dissociation to the awareness of affect in relationship to self and
others.
About the Director
Susan Jakubowicz, PhD, LCSW, NCPsyA, LP, is the Director of the College of
Psychoanalysis of Heed University and an Adjunct Associate Professor at New York
University. She is the Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director of the Center for
Human Development, Co-Editor of Current Trends in Psychoanalysis and
Psychotherapy and a Founding Member of the Center for the Advancement of Group
Studies. She is the author of numerous articles and has done extensive work with
the chronic and terminally ill. She devotes a part of her private practice to
supervising and running training groups for persons working with this population
and serves as a consultant for various agencies. She is an individual and group
psychoanalyst and training supervisor, and also works with families, couples and
children in her private practice in Manhattan.
About Heed University

non-traditional institutions of higher education in this country. Heed has
pioneered alternative education programs for three decades. The university was
established in 1970 and is a founding member of the National Association for the
Advancement of Psychoanalysis (NAAP) and an Associate Member of The American
Board for Accreditation in Psychoanalysis (ABAP). The program in psychoanalysis
was implemented in 1974, and the Hattie R. Rosenthal Psychoanalytic Institute
was started in 1980. The Psychoanalytic Institute became the Hattie R. Rosenthal
College of Psychoanalysis of Heed University in 1999. It offers two doctoral
degrees in psychoanalysis-the PhD and the PsyD.

Doctoral Credit
In order to receive doctoral credit for attending this conference, students
enrolled at Heed University are required to write an 8-10 page paper based on
assigned topics, in consultation with their Mentors. (2 credits will be awarded
upon satisfactory completion of the paper.)
Continuing Education Credits
Those who wish to receive Continuing Education credit for attending this
conference should contact Dr. Susan R. Blumenson, Conference Co-chair, at the
Heed telephone number. Certificates will be available at the registration desk
at the end of the conference.
