Thomas Jefferson College of Law provides an opportunity to study law through
independent study. We make law study available and possible to highly motivated and
qualified individuals who otherwise might not be able to do so.
You may earn a non-bar law degree without classroom attendance and at relatively low cost.
Our programs are efficient, moderately priced and individually paced. Your law degree may
significantly increase your income and earning capacity, your work performance and your
personal prestige.
It would be a pleasure to discuss how we may be of service to you.
Thomas Jefferson College of Law is a division of Heed University, which was founded in
1970. Heed stands for Humanistic Education through the External
Degree. Heed University is a private, not- for-profit, non-sectarian
institution of higher learning.
It is our philosophy that mature individuals with extensive experience should be permitted
the opportunity to study for college degrees without a rigid, formalized structure. The
Heed program of "Freedom to Learn" provides this opportunity. Following a
"University Without Walls" philosophy, students are permitted a wide range of
activities to meet educational and personal goals they establish for themselves with
faculty guidance. Most students will complete their degree requirements within one year or
less.
Heed University is authorized through its charter, granted by the State of Wisconsin, to
conduct courses and confer appropriate degrees. We offer non-bar programs leading to the
B.S.L., J.D., LL.M. and S.J.D. degrees. In addition, Heed University offers programs
leading to the B.A., B.B.A., B.S., M.A., M.S., M.B.A., D.B.A., Psy.D., Ed.D. and Ph.D.
degrees.
Many men and women in the professions, education and business find that the study of law
would be most useful in their work; contracts must be prepared and evaluated; lawsuits are
an ever- present danger in the business environment; and trusts, estates and wills must be
prepared. Indeed, law touches every facet of our lives. An understanding of legal
principles is important not only for success in the professions and business, but also for
the pursuit of life and happiness in our society.
A student seeking a degree at Thomas Jefferson College of Law could be someone who did not
have the opportunity to pursue full- time legal studies early in his or her career. The
opportunity for law training may not have been available or the pressures of work and
family prevented full-time study. This individual might be older than the traditional
student. In addition, this student is motivated, usually mature, often demonstrates law
related competencies learned on the job, and brings with him or her a wide variety of life
experiences which may be evaluated in terms of college and graduate credit. Students at
the Thomas Jefferson College of Law include business and banking executives, insurance
personnel, physicians, dentists, accountants, educators, psychologists and persons
involved in the field of criminal justice. All of these people are seeking to gain legal
knowledge and utilize their own knowledge and skills gained over the course of successful
careers.
The law programs at Thomas Jefferson College of Law will benefit individuals preparing for
a career related to law such as parole officer, insurance claim adjuster, law enforcement
officer or individuals with a need or desire to understand our legal system.
