Heed University School of Theology
1999 - 2000 Catalogue
Heed University was founded
in 1970 in the State of Florida as a non-profit educational institution. The
Florida corporation, now known as Heed University School
of Theology (HUSoT), is authorized to operate by the Florida State Board of
Independent Colleges and Universities and is tax-exempt under § 501(c)(3) of the
U.S. Internal Revenue Code. It is affiliated with the Old Catholic Church in
North America (OCCNA). HUSoT's purpose "is to prepare students for
missionary, ministerial, or religious educational purposes"; its degree programs
"are designed for ecclesiastical purposes only" [Florida Statutes §246.083(1)].
All programs may be completed on a correspondence or guided
study basis; there are no classroom-attendance or residency requirements. The
student's local church, library, and community are his or her campus. Regular
contact between students and faculty mentors is maintained through the HUSoT Web-Site, by
E-mail, telephone, fax, and postal mail. Thus individuals who are sufficiently
mature and motivated may complete their theological education while maintaining their
present employment, either religious or secular. Appropriate credits may be
transferred from other recognized seminaries; transfer of credits from this institution to
other institutions is at the discretion of the receiving institution, and it is the
student's responsibility to confirm whether or not credits will be accepted by another
college of the student's choiceto

Applicants should note that ordination is
conferred by bishops and churches, not by seminaries or universities. Those
interested in pursuing ordination to the ministry or priesthood should contact the
religious denomination in which they seek to serve before undertaking a program
of theological education at any institution. HUSoT lacks the resources to provide
placement assistance to its students or alumni but will gladly furnish the name and
address of the appropriate OCCNA or other bishop.
Students may enroll during any month of the year, and
they may graduate during any month. There are no semesters, quarters or deadlines,
as all programs of study are individualized and allow the student to work at his or her
own pace. The only time limit is a minimum of nine months between
matriculation and graduation.
